YouTube India Reports 20% Increase in Seven-Figure Creators

YouTube India's recent impact report for 2025 highlights the platform's substantial economic role, revealing a contribution of Rs 18,000 crore to the Indian economy. Additionally, it supported nearly a million full-time equivalent jobs, showcasing the growing significance of content creation as a viable career path. Gunjan Soni, YouTube India's Managing Director, shared these insights during an exclusive interview with NDTV's Shiv Aroor.

Soni elaborated on the transformative journey of many creators, noting that some have evolved from humble beginnings to become employers of dozens. She cited the example of a channel named 'Simple Ghar', which started in 2022 with a vision to assist households in making informed purchasing decisions. Initially operating from a single room, the channel now employs 35 individuals and produces content in over seven languages, illustrating the potential for growth within the creator economy.

The report indicates that 73% of creators consider YouTube their primary income source. Soni emphasized the platform's commitment to nurturing this ecosystem, focusing on both content creation support and monetization avenues. This dedication aims to further enhance the economic impact of YouTube in India.

Despite the vast ecosystem, Soni expressed surprise at the monetization of around 200,000 new channels last year, indicating a robust influx of innovative creators. She also highlighted the notable growth at the top tier of the creator economy, with a 20% increase in the number of creators earning seven figures, a significant milestone in the Indian context.

Looking ahead, YouTube India plans to continue investing in the creator ecosystem, fostering an environment where more individuals can thrive financially through content creation. As the platform evolves, it remains focused on expanding opportunities for creators and enhancing their economic contributions to the country.
