IIM Nagpur Partners with PWD for Road Decongestion Study

In a significant move to tackle traffic congestion in Goa, IIM Nagpur's Council for Logistics, Infrastructure, and Project Management has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Public Works Department (PWD). The agreement was formalized on Wednesday in the presence of Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Goa's Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who highlighted the importance of this initiative for improving road safety and efficiency.

The MoU outlines a comprehensive study aimed at decongesting critical junctions in Goa, with a report anticipated within six months. Chief Minister Sawant indicated that the research will focus on some of the busiest intersections in Panaji, including the KTC bus stand, Divja Circle, and the Margao junction. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance traffic management and reduce road accidents in the region.

During the event, Sawant also announced that PWD Minister Digambar Kamat and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte will oversee traffic management on the newly constructed six-lane Porvorim highway corridor, set to be inaugurated on September 11 at 4 PM. He emphasized the government's commitment to keeping highway tolls from being implemented in Goa, expressing hope for continued support from Gadkari in this regard.

Union Minister Gadkari urged the state government to prioritize the development of model green highways in Goa, advocating for quality landscaping and sustainable practices. He stated that ethics, ecology, and environment are fundamental to good governance and should guide infrastructure projects.

Minister Khaunte remarked on the successful execution of the Porvorim project, which was designed to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow. Minister Kamat confirmed that the Porvorim corridor was opened as promised, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion, especially during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, which is expected to draw large crowds and increase road usage.
