In a shocking incident in Nagpur, a man was arrested for setting a pub ablaze after being denied entry with a gutkha pouch. The fire occurred at The Cafe Barrel in Shivaji Nagar during the early hours of Sunday, following a confrontation with security personnel the previous evening.
Mohanlal Tiwari, a 31-year-old chef who owns a restaurant in the city, attempted to enter the pub on Saturday night when he was stopped by a guard due to the gutkha packet he was carrying. Feeling humiliated in front of his friends, Tiwari devised a plan to retaliate. He enlisted the help of his friend, Shubham Vishwakarma, without initially disclosing his intentions.
After a drive, Tiwari revealed his plan to Vishwakarma, and the two returned to the pub. They proceeded to pour petrol inside the establishment and ignited the fire before fleeing the scene. Their actions were captured on the pub's CCTV system, which later aided the police in their investigation.
The fire resulted in damages estimated at around Rs 9 lakh, prompting the pub's owner, Harish Gavai, to file a police complaint. Authorities quickly identified the suspects through the footage, leading to their arrest shortly thereafter.
The incident has raised concerns regarding public safety and the consequences of such impulsive actions. As investigations continue, the police are expected to enhance security measures in nightlife areas to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
