Nagpur Youths Arrested for ₹20,000 Extortion Attempt

In a disturbing incident in Nagpur, three young men have been arrested for allegedly attempting to extort ₹20,000 from a local tea stall operator. The events unfolded near a tea stall operated by Chandrashekhar Bhisikhar, where the suspects reportedly threatened the complainant, Sanjay Kharbikar, with a knife, demanding monthly payments under duress.
The situation escalated when Kharbikar, returning from a visit to Panchpawaleshwar Temple, encountered the trio near a railway gate. After asking them to clear the path, he was subjected to verbal abuse and physical assault. The assailants not only attacked him but also vandalized his motorcycle, causing significant damage.
Following the initial confrontation, Kharbikar sought refuge at his friend’s tea stall, only to be confronted again by the same individuals. This time, the suspects allegedly brandished a knife and reiterated their demand for ₹20,000, threatening to kill him if he failed to comply. The alarming nature of these threats prompted Kharbikar to file a formal complaint with the Tehsil police.
Acting on the complaint, law enforcement officials quickly registered a case against the suspects, identified as Soham alias Sonu Nimje and Akshay Dhakate, along with a third unidentified individual. Police have confirmed the arrest of Nimje and Dhakate, both of whom have prior criminal records, including offenses related to the NDPS Act and illegal possession of weapons. The search for the third suspect is currently underway.
This incident raises serious concerns about public safety in Nagpur, particularly regarding the prevalence of extortion and violent crime. Local authorities are urged to enhance security measures and address the underlying issues contributing to such criminal behavior.
