Apraava Energy Expands Transmission Network with Raigad Project

Apraava Energy, a Mumbai-based integrated energy solutions provider, has taken a significant step in enhancing Maharashtra's power transmission capabilities by acquiring Raigad Power Transmission Limited. This acquisition will facilitate the development of an intrastate transmission project spanning Pune and Raigad districts, aimed at evacuating approximately 3 GW of power from pumped storage plants (PSPs) in the region.

The company has established a strong presence in Maharashtra, operating over 200 MW of wind and 70 MW of solar energy capacity. With this new project, Apraava adds its first transmission asset in the state, which is designed to improve grid stability and ensure a reliable power supply to potential PSPs. Currently, Apraava operates three transmission assets that include around 1,000 circuit kilometers (ckm) of transmission lines and 3,500 MVA of substation capacity.

The Raigad project, awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process, will involve the construction of about 400 ckm of transmission lines, including 340 ckm of 765 kV lines. The project will also feature a 4,500 MVA pooling station and is set to be developed under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, with a concession period of 35 years post-commissioning. Completion is targeted within 24 months from the signing of the Transmission Service Agreement (TSA).

Beyond enhancing the power transmission infrastructure, the project is anticipated to generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities during its construction and operational phases. This aligns with Maharashtra's need for a robust transmission network to support its growing energy demands, particularly as it continues to integrate renewable energy sources into its grid.

Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Managing Director of Apraava Energy, emphasized the project's significance, stating that it will play a crucial role in strengthening the state's transmission network and facilitating the integration of renewable energy. He highlighted Maharashtra's importance in Apraava's journey, noting that the company began its renewable energy efforts in the state with its first wind project in 2006. As Maharashtra is a key economic hub, Mishra reiterated the necessity for a resilient transmission network to meet the increasing energy needs of the region.
