The state is a major contributor to India's agricultural landscape, accounting for nearly half of the nation's soybean production, about 11% of maize output, and nearly a quarter of sugarcane. The current rainfall deficit of 19% recorded by the India Meteorological Department, with only 801.5 mm received compared to the average of 986.7 mm, exacerbates the situation.
