Bumrah Returns as Yash Thakur Steps in for Injured Rana

Jasprit Bumrah has received medical clearance to participate in the T20I series against Afghanistan, set to commence on September 13. This announcement comes after Bumrah's absence from the field for nearly two months, during which he dealt with a recurring knee injury. Harshit Rana, initially part of the squad, has been ruled out due to a new injury sustained during a match simulation on September 7 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Rana suffered a rectus femoris strain while bowling, which has led to his replacement by Yash Thakur.

Yash Thakur, 27, made his T20I debut in July, where he showcased his skills by taking two wickets in each of his two matches against Zimbabwe. Recently, he performed well in the Duleep Trophy semi-final, taking four wickets against East Zone. His inclusion in the squad is expected to strengthen the bowling lineup as India gears up for the T20 series and the Asian Games.

The T20I matches will take place in Delhi on September 13, 15, and 17, after which the same squad will head to Japan for the Asian Games. India will begin its campaign in the quarter-finals on September 28, with the semi-finals scheduled for October 1 and the final on October 3.
