Indian Teen Swimmer Faces 18-Month Suspension Ahead of Asian Games

A 17-year-old swimmer from India has been suspended for 18 months after failing a doping test, resulting in his exclusion from the country's team for the upcoming Asian Games. The swimmer, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his minor status, reportedly has a twin brother who is still eligible to compete in the Games.

The doping violation occurred in February when the swimmer tested positive for terbutaline, a beta-2 agonist often prescribed for respiratory conditions. Reports indicate that he had received a prescription from a doctor following an incident of smoke inhalation but failed to secure the necessary therapeutic use exemption. This oversight led to his name being withdrawn from both the Commonwealth and Asian Games rosters by the Swimming Federation of India.
