The Apple A20 Pro has made its debut on Geekbench, showcasing its capabilities within the iPhone 18 Pro Max. This new chip has set a remarkable standard in single-core performance, outperforming early results from Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and MediaTek's Dimensity 9600 Pro. The A20 Pro achieved a score of 4,725 points in single-core tests, demonstrating its significant lead over competitors, while Xiaomi's Xring O3 leads in multi-core performance.
This groundbreaking performance comes shortly after the official unveiling of the iPhone 18 Pro series, including the iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo. The Geekbench 6.7 results indicate that the A20 Pro features a six-core CPU configured in a 2+4 arrangement, with the two performance cores reaching impressive clock speeds of up to 4.93 GHz. The device is equipped with 12 GB of RAM, further enhancing its processing capabilities.
In comparison, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, found in an iQOO flagship, scored 3,434 points in single-core and 9,334 points in multi-core tests. Despite achieving a peak frequency of 5.01 GHz, it lags significantly behind the A20 Pro, which is approximately 38% faster in single-core performance and 35% faster in multi-core performance. Similarly, MediaTek's Dimensity 9600 Pro averages around 3,400 points in single-core tests, reinforcing the A20 Pro's dominance in this category.
The competition does not end there, as Xiaomi's Xring O3, featured in the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, scored 3,699 points in single-core and 14,350 points in multi-core tests. While the A20 Pro outperforms the Xring O3 by about 28% in single-core performance, the latter takes the lead in multi-core performance by approximately 14%. This illustrates the competitive landscape among mobile processors.
In addition to its CPU performance, the A20 Pro's GPU has also shown remarkable improvements. A separate Geekbench 6.7 Metal run revealed a score of 64,069 points for the A20 Pro GPU, marking a 40% increase over the A19 Pro's performance. This leap can be attributed to enhancements such as an additional GPU core and advancements in manufacturing technology, solidifying Apple's reputation for delivering cutting-edge performance in mobile devices.
