In a tragic incident early Friday morning, nine migrant laborers lost their lives when a pickup van collided with a truck on the Lakhni-Pimpalgaon road in Bhandara district, Maharashtra. The vehicle was transporting around 15 laborers towards Nagpur, most of whom were asleep at the time of the crash.
The collision resulted in immediate fatalities, with eight individuals pronounced dead upon arrival at Bhandara Government Hospital. Four others were transferred to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Nagpur, where one survivor is reported to be in critical condition. The identities of the deceased and injured have yet to be confirmed, as authorities are working to reach out to their families, primarily from Chhattisgarh.
The force of the impact necessitated the use of JCBs to disentangle the wrecked vehicles. Eyewitnesses reported that several workers were trapped inside the pickup, crying out for assistance. Local villagers and police quickly responded, aiding in the rescue and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.
Senior officials, including IG Nagpur Range Sandeep Patil and Bhandara SP Nurul Hasan, arrived at the scene to oversee the ongoing rescue operations. The Bhandara district administration is actively coordinating efforts to provide support to the victims and facilitate the identification process for the families of those affected.
