Russian President Vladimir Putin made a notable appearance, marking his first in-person participation at a BRICS summit outside Russia since the onset of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022. His arrival was closely followed by a scheduled bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on defense and other critical matters.
The summit takes place against a backdrop of significant global crises affecting energy and agricultural supply chains, primarily due to ongoing conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who departed Tehran earlier in the day, is also set to engage in discussions with PM Modi, emphasizing the importance of India-Iran relations.
