Al-Beik had taken command of the Qassam Brigades in northern Gaza amid ongoing hostilities, succeeding Ahmed al-Ghandour. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement on social media confirming the operation that led to al-Beik's death.
