In a notable advancement for India's high-speed rail project, the first steel bridge for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train has been successfully launched in Maharashtra. This 100-meter-long structure, weighing 1,405 metric tons, is situated over the Nashik Highway (NH-3) at Dive-Anjur village in Thane district. The completion of this bridge marks a significant step forward in the ambitious bullet train initiative.

The bridge was fabricated at a workshop in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, which is approximately 1,300 kilometers from its installation site. This transportation and assembly process highlights the growing capabilities of Indian industries in manufacturing complex infrastructure components. The fabrication involved precise engineering techniques, including cutting, drilling, welding, and painting, all adhering to stringent specifications and designs.

Each batch of steel used in the bridge's construction underwent Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to ensure quality. Additionally, certified welders and supervisors oversaw the assembly process, underscoring the project's commitment to high standards. The bridge's design includes advanced features such as a C5 protective painting system and elastomeric bearings, enhancing its durability and vibration control.

The completed bridge was strategically positioned using an automatic mechanism with hollow jacks and pre-tensioned Macalloy Bars. To minimize disruption to highway traffic, the installation was conducted during planned night traffic blocks. Steel bridges like this one are particularly advantageous for spanning highways, rivers, and railway lines, where longer spans are essential.

Out of the 28 steel bridges planned for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, 16 have now been completed. This project not only reflects India's growing engineering prowess but also aligns with the Make in India initiative, promoting local manufacturing in the development of high-speed rail infrastructure.
