Maharashtra Parents Arrested for Selling Baby for Luxury Goods
A couple in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar sold their one-month-old child for over Rs 1 lakh to fund a lavish lifestyle, leading to multiple arrests.

In a shocking incident from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, a couple has been arrested for allegedly selling their one-month-old baby for over Rs 1 lakh. The police intervened after the mother reported being assaulted, leading to the discovery of the child's sale, which was not driven by necessity but rather by the couple's desire for luxury goods.
The case came to light on September 20, when the mother approached the police with allegations of domestic violence. During the investigation, authorities uncovered that the couple had sold their infant to fund their extravagant lifestyle, including purchasing new mobile phones and a gold chain. The police have since rescued the baby from Hyderabad, located more than 550 kilometers from their home.
The investigation revealed a disturbing pattern, as the baby was sold and resold four times before being recovered. Initially, the parents sold the child to an intermediary named Seema Reshwal for Rs 1.2 lakh. Seema then sold the baby to Sangeeta Avhad from Padegaon for Rs 2.7 lakh. Subsequently, Sangeeta sold the child to a purported fake doctor, Suresh Guntuka, for Rs 3.5 lakh, who then transferred the baby to a relative in Hyderabad for the same amount.
The police have arrested seven individuals in connection with this case, including the biological parents, the intermediaries, and the fake doctor. Inspector Vivek Sonawane of Pundliknagar police has stated that a case has been registered under relevant legal provisions against all parties involved. Additionally, police have confiscated two expensive mobile phones and the gold chain purchased with the proceeds from the sale.
Authorities are now investigating whether the intermediaries, particularly the fake doctor, have been involved in similar transactions in the past. Efforts are underway to return the rescued child to Maharashtra, ensuring their safety and welfare.
