Priya has clinched a medal for India in the women's 60 kg boxing category at the 2026 Asian Games by reaching the semifinals. Competing in Aichi-Nagoya, she showcased her skills by defeating Mijgona Samadova from Tajikistan with a unanimous score of 5-0 in the quarterfinals held on Monday. Priya's performance included winning the first round 3-2, dominating the second round 5-0, and securing the final round to seal her victory.
The Asian Games have been a platform for Indian boxers, and Priya's achievement adds to the country's growing reputation in the sport. In addition to her success, Indian Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain also guaranteed a medal by advancing to the semifinals in the women's 75 kg category. Lovlina triumphed over Seong Suyeon of South Korea, a bronze medallist from the 2010 Asian Games, with a unanimous decision of 5-0, winning the first round 10-9 and dominating the next two rounds.
Another notable performance came from Parveen Hooda, who confirmed her medal by winning her quarterfinal match in the women's 65 kg competition. Parveen defeated Uzbekistan's Navbakhor Khamidova, a silver medallist from the World Championships, with a unanimous score of 5-0. Her rounds were decisive, winning 4-1, 5-0, and 5-0. In the men's category, Ankush Panghal also made headlines by advancing to the semifinals in the men's 80 kg boxing. He secured a unanimous decision of 5-0 against Nekruz Salimov from Tajikistan in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
