UAE Players' Participation in ILT20 Auction in Doubt
The upcoming ILT20 auction faces uncertainty as UAE players may be unavailable due to overlapping ODI World Cup Qualifiers.

The availability of top UAE players for the upcoming fifth edition of the ILT20 is in question as it coincides with the ODI World Cup Qualifier playoffs. The ILT20 is set to take place from November 22 to December 20, 2027, while the Qualifier playoffs are scheduled from December 1 to 22. This scheduling conflict has raised concerns among the franchises ahead of the player auction on October 1.
The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) had approached the ICC to explore the possibility of rescheduling the Qualifier playoffs to January, but was informed that the global cricket calendar is already tightly packed. Despite this, ILT20's interim chief operating officer Mike Fordham indicated that some leading UAE players are likely to participate in the tournament, although others may miss parts of the season depending on the outcome of the World Cup Qualifiers.
Currently, the UAE team finds itself at the bottom of the ICC World Cricket League 2 standings, with eight matches remaining. To remain in contention for the World Cup playoffs, they must secure victories in the majority of these matches. The team is set to travel to Dallas for matches against the USA and Namibia, followed by a tri-series against the Netherlands and Oman later in October.
In the auction shortlist shared with franchises, half of the marquee set of 44 players consists of UAE players, including notable names like Muhammad Waseem and Junaid Siddique. Each franchise has a budget of $1.3 million for the auction, in addition to any unspent funds from previous signings. The squads must include a minimum of 18 players, with specific requirements for representation from Full Member and Associate countries.
As the auction approaches, franchises are also allowed to select replacement players and one wildcard player. The Right-to-Match option will be available for UAE players who were part of a franchise last season or participated in the ILT20 Development Tournament 2026. The outcome of the auction will significantly impact the composition of teams as they prepare for the upcoming season amidst these uncertainties.
