Delhi Government Implements New Pollution Control Measures Starting November 1
To combat worsening air quality, the Delhi government announces increased parking fees and a 50% work-from-home mandate for offices.

In response to the anticipated rise in air pollution levels, the Delhi government has unveiled a series of measures aimed at mitigating the crisis starting November 1. These initiatives include a significant increase in parking fees, staggered office hours, and a mandate for a 50% reduction in the in-office workforce for both government and private sectors.
The revised parking fees will see charges at authorized locations doubling, a move intended to discourage the use of private vehicles. This adjustment will remain in effect until February 28, 2027, with the exception of parking facilities managed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Additionally, office timings will be adjusted, with Municipal Corporation of Delhi offices operating from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and those under the Government of the National Capital Territory from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
The directive for a 50% work-from-home policy mandates that half of the employees in both government and private offices work remotely during this period, which will last until February 28. Furthermore, the government has announced a complete halt to all construction and demolition activities from December 10, 2026, to January 20, 2027, along with a ban on dust-generating activities from November 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened a meeting with Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi's Food and Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa to discuss these measures. The Chief Minister emphasized that ensuring clean air is a year-round priority, and the government is committed to taking focused actions against major pollution sources through strict enforcement and coordinated efforts.
Looking ahead, these measures are part of a broader strategy to improve air quality in Delhi, which typically deteriorates during the winter months. The government is expected to monitor the effectiveness of these initiatives closely and may implement further actions based on the pollution levels observed in the coming months.
