The suspects, all British nationals in their mid-twenties, were initially detained under explosives legislation before being arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.
The incident unfolded as a local farmer reported encountering the suspicious vans and a group of masked individuals moving towards nearby fields. After calling 999 at approximately 1:36 AM, she expressed her belief that her alert prevented a potential attack. In response, police established a 400-meter cordon around the vehicles and evacuated around 85 homes in Whelford as a precautionary measure while an Army bomb-disposal team conducted a thorough search of the vans.
