Tukaram Mundhe: IAS Officer Faces Allegations Amid FDA Crackdown

Tukaram Mundhe, a 51-year-old IAS officer from Maharashtra, has gained national attention for his role as the Commissioner of the state's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since May 2026. His leadership has led to a rigorous enforcement campaign against food safety violations, resulting in over 12,000 inspections and numerous licence suspensions. After completing his education, he cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2004 and joined the IAS in 2005. His strict enforcement style has led to a high number of transfers—approximately 25 in 21 years—sparking discussions about the reasons behind these frequent changes.
