2027 Cricket World Cup Schedule to be Announced on October 1

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) are set to announce the schedule for the 2027 Cricket World Cup in Cape Town on October 1. This event will also mark the one-year countdown to the tournament, which is scheduled to kick off on October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. The World Cup will conclude on November 21, 2027.

As the tournament approaches, ten of the fourteen teams will be confirmed by September 30, the deadline for qualification. South Africa and Zimbabwe will automatically qualify as hosts, while the remaining eight teams will qualify based on their ICC ODI rankings. The last four teams will emerge from the qualifiers, designated as Qualifier 1, 2, 3, and 4. Namibia is also a host nation, but its qualification status remains uncertain.

Currently, the teams likely to qualify through the rankings include India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Notably, Bangladesh, ranked ninth, will qualify due to South Africa's hosting status as the third-ranked team. The West Indies, engaged in an ODI series in India, will need to navigate the qualifiers scheduled for early next year.

On the same day, the ICC will launch the ticket ballot for the World Cup. While tickets won't be available for immediate purchase, fans can register for the ballot starting October 1, providing them a chance to secure their seats for the matches.

The tournament format for the 2027 World Cup includes three rounds before the semi-finals and final. It will commence with a Super Series featuring the three lowest-ranked teams in a round-robin format. The top team will advance to the next stage, followed by a second round with 30 matches among 12 teams divided into two groups. The top three from each group, along with one additional team, will progress to the Super 7 stage, culminating in the semi-finals and the final showdown for the championship.
