The remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is scheduled to launch tomorrow as a free update for both PC and console users. This significant update, which includes approximately 45GB of new content, promises more than just graphical improvements. Jakub Kutrzuba, Executive Producer at CD Projekt RED, noted that after experiencing the remaster, players may find it challenging to return to the original version.
Concerns regarding the remaster's performance, especially on lower-end devices like the Steam Deck, were raised by Kutrzuba, who mentioned that the remaster is technically demanding. However, early access reviews from Steam Deck HQ suggest that the game remains enjoyable on the handheld platform. The review highlighted that the remastered version runs smoothly, defying initial expectations about performance issues.
Noah Kupetsky from Steam Deck HQ tested the remaster and reported that while the updated visuals are indeed heavier on system resources, the game is still playable. The review featured various comparison screenshots, showcasing significant visual enhancements, particularly in lighting. The default settings on the Steam Deck include FSR enabled, Screen Space Ambient Occlusion set to High, and other settings adjusted to maintain performance without ray tracing.
Despite some performance drops noted in the review, with frame rates decreasing from 56 to 50 FPS in cutscenes and from 58 to 49 FPS in forest scenes, the game consistently maintains playable frame rates above 40 FPS. Kupetsky expressed optimism about potential future optimizations that could enhance performance further while retaining the improved visuals.
As the release date approaches, players are eager to see how the remaster performs across various platforms. The developers are likely to monitor feedback closely to implement any necessary adjustments post-launch, ensuring that fans of the series can enjoy the enhanced experience without compromising gameplay quality.
